Ava Hsueh。1991。
Untitled is a lithograph created by Ava Hsueh in 1991 (metal plate, edition 3/10). The work reflects a pivotal shift in her ongoing investigation of abstract art and aesthetics, serving as a sanctuary of inner quietude. Hsueh contends that abstract art is never detached from contemporary discourse; rather, historically constructed knowledge systems must continually intersect with real-world contexts to generate expanding meanings. Originating in the late 1980s, her “Untitled” series rejects representational imagery, inviting viewers to engage with the expansive space emanating from the canvas. This spatial field mirrors the intersections of temporality and embodiment, encouraging viewers to traverse these painterly realms and explore new possibilities for contemporary abstraction within the present moment.
