Lin Ling-lan (b. 1940), known by her art name Hehuang, was born in Taipei, Taiwan. She graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the National Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts) and traveled to Japan in 1965 to study at the Chikushi Art Academy. Her artistic style is characterized by swirling, serpentine abstract motifs interwoven with symbols of varying scale, expressing her core creative philosophy that “all things are in constant flux.” In 1976, she was awarded the Mayor’s Prize at the Fukuoka City Art Exhibition, and in 1986, she presented a solo exhibition in Fukuoka. Her work has been showcased in major international exhibitions, including the Fukuoka City Art Exhibition, the Asian Modern Art Exhibition, the Exhibition of Works by Overseas Chinese Artists, and the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. In 1989, she was invited by the NMH to participate in the “Commemorative Exhibition of Touliao Sketches.”

Remembering a Great Man is an acrylic on canvas by Lin Ling-lan, created in 1989. Characterized by a simple composition and vivid color palette, the work depicts distant mountains and lush foreground greenery in varying shades of blue and green. A red-roofed building serves as the central focal point, symbolizing profound respect and remembrance for a great leader. This piece was collected by the NMH for its Touliao Sketching Exhibition. The central structure, Touliao Guesthouse, was originally a modest traditional quadrangle (siheyuan) used to store Presidential Office archives. Following the passing of President Chiang Ching-kuo in 1988, the building became his temporary resting place. Subsequently renamed the Daxi Mausoleum, the site was opened to the public as a sanctuary for remembrance and respect.
