溫淑靜（1931–2024），廣東梅縣人。二戰後遷臺，畢業於政工幹校美術組（今國防大學政治作戰學院應用藝術學系美術組），早年從黃君璧習畫。曾任臺中女中及師範大學教官，並在師大美術系夜間部學習油畫。1970年與譚淑、王君懿、黃國瑛、胡佩鏘、梅笑櫻、田曼詩、溫碧英、梁丹丰、羅芳共組「十秀畫會」；1973年與王君懿、羅芳舉辦聯合畫展，此期以水墨山水為主，用筆蒼潤、雲水淋漓，深得黃君璧畫風神韻。後赴美專職創作，擅長後期印象派油畫。1969年於本館舉辦「溫淑靜畫展」。
Wsn Shoo-ching (1931-2024) was a native of Meixian, Guangdong. After relocating to Taiwan following World War II, she graduated from the Fine Arts Section of the Political Cadres School (now the Department of Applied Arts, Political Warfare College, National Defense University). In her early years, she studied ink painting under master Huang Chun-pi. While serving as a military instructor at Taichung Girls’ High School and National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), she pursued further studies in oil painting in NTNU’s evening degree program. In 1970, she co-founded the Shixiu (Ten Beauties) Art Society alongside Tan Shu, Wang Chun-yi, Huang Kuo-ying, Hu Pei-chiang, Mei Hsiao-ying, Tien Man-shih, Wen Bi-ying, Liang Dan-fong, and Lo Fang. In 1973, Wen held a joint exhibition with Wang Chun-yi and Lo Fang. During this period, her practice focused primarily on landscape ink paintings, characterized by textured brushwork and lush, vaporous ink washes that deeply captured the spirit of Huang Chun-pi’s style. She later moved to the United States to paint full-time, excelling in Post-lmpressionist oil painting. In 1969, she was invited by the NMH to present the solo exhibition “Wen Shu-ching Painting Exhibition.”

A Melody Difficult to Compose is an oil painting on canvas by Wen Shu-ching, created in 1968. Solid, interlocking geometric color blocks of deep red, olive green, brown, black, and gray form an abstract Cubist composition. On the left, a seated musician rests before a cello, while a standing player gazes down at a musical score. To the rear right, a pianist turns toward their fellow ensemble members. Complex and dynamically layered, the composition generates a vibrant visual rhythm that echoes the intricate structure of a musical score.
