Liang Shiow-chung (b. 1934), a native of Shunde, Guangdong, was born in Nanjing. As the daughter of the renowned painter Liang Chung-ming, she trained under her father from an early age, later specializing in ink paintings of figures, flowers and birds, and landscapes—infusing these traditional genres with a modern sensibility. She moved to Taiwan in 1948 and graduated from the Department of Art at Taiwan Provincial Normal University (now the Department of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University). She remained at the university to teach, eventually rising to professor, and in 1986 became the first female dean of its College of Arts. Liang has been regularly invited to participate in the National Fine Arts Exhibition. Her career also includes advanced study in the United States, two guest lectureships in the Philippines, and extensive international travel across Europe, the United States, Japan, and Korea for art education research and academic conferences. She has served on multiple advisory and evaluation committees for the NMH, including fine arts review, collections inventory, and artwork appraisal. In 1986, invited by the NMH, she contributed to the monumental collaborative ink painting Pictorial History of the Eight-Year War of Resistance Against Japan, standing out as the sole female master among the participating artists and calligraphers.

Tea Picking is an ink and color on paper painting by Liang Shiow-chung in 1979. Depicting a tea plantation in northern Taiwan, the painting offers a fresh and engaging vision of rural life. Spatial depth is skillfully rendered through perspective, as vibrant foreground details give way to a soft, misty distance. The foreground focuses on a tea picker engrossed in plucking tender leaves, complemented by two women busily working in the middle ground, set against faint mountain silhouettes in the far background. Dressed in traditional conical hats, headscarves, and arm sleeves, their serene expressions and measured movements embody a timeless, classic grace.
