簡美育（b.1953），生於南投，畢業於國立藝術專科學校（今國立臺灣藝術大學）。早年師從金勤伯，多年來致力於耕耘傳統工筆畫的精進，更投注大量精力於實地訪查寫生，以此為基礎，於技法上做多方的嘗試，賦予花鳥畫意在畫外的幽遠氣質。2000年起自我突破，繪畫上整體性拓展，觀察人與大自然的關係與情感，深探生命的本質，為工筆花鳥畫賦予能量與新意趣。2004年受邀於本館舉辦「靜觀一簡美育作品展」。
Chien Mei-yu (b. 1953) was born in Nantou and graduated from the National Academy of Arts (now National Taiwan University of Arts). In her early years, she studied under the master painter Jin Chin-bo. Over the decades, she has dedicated herself to refining traditional gongbi (fine-line) painting while undertaking extensive field research and sketching from life. Building on these direct observations, she has experimented with diverse techniques, imparting her bird-and-flower compositions with a quiet depth of meaning that extends beyond the imagery itself. Beginning in 2000, Chien achieved a personal breakthrough by expanding the thematic breadth of her work, exploring the profound connections between humanity and the natural world. Her deeper inquiry into the essence of life has infused traditional gongbi painting with fresh vitality and novel artistic spirit. In 2004, she was invited by the NMH to present the solo exhibition “Contemplation: Works by Chien Mei-yu.”
《白瓜葉菊》，為簡美育1991年水墨設色絹本作品。本幅不設背景，對造形單純地描寫，花朵競相綻放，優雅而純真，葉子分染留出「水路」，在主筋的兩邊空出均匀的白地，由葉根向葉外分染，染出深淺變化。整張畫作表現出生命的活力，感覺清新而自然，為作者早期寫生之作。同主題作品有1999年的《紫瓜葉菊》。款：美育。印：簡美育。
White Cineraria is an ink and color on silk painting by Chien Mei-yu in 1991. Depicted without a background, the work focuses entirely on the pure form of the plant, whose flowers bloom in profusion, conveying elegance and innocence. The leaves are rendered through graded color washes radiating outward from the leaf bases, skillfully leaving “water lines” (shuilu)—slender strips of unpainted silk along both sides of the main veins—to create delicate variations in tone. Exuding vitality, fresh energy, and natural charm, this is an early work painted from life; a counterpart piece sharing the same subject is Purple Cineraria (1999).
