Hanging Scroll in Bronze Inscription Script is a calligraphic work by Feng Ji-rong. Bronze inscription script, known as zhongdingwen or jinwen, consists of characters cast or engraved on bronze vessels. The characters are slender and elongated, varying in size, while centered-tip brushwork gives the strokes strength and vigor. The inscription records that the Duke of Ying, ruler of the state of Ying during the Western Zhou period (around the 11th century BCE), commissioned a precious bronze ritual vessel and declared. “Yan, together with your younger brothers, prepare food tirelessly, day and night, and present offerings in worship of the ancestors.”
