A Recluse in Deep Seclusion is an ink and color on paper painting by Tien Man-shih. The work evokes the tranquil solitude of listening to a spring behind closed doors. Rocky slopes, trees, and a shallow stream occupy the foreground, with fine ink lines tracing gentle ripples across the water. Dense texture strokes and ink dots lend a rich layer of detail to the scene, complemented by light washes of mineral blue-green and pale ocher on the rocks, contrasted with the lush, deeper hues of the trees. In the background, overlapping peaks rise high, where a cascading white waterfall plunges through drifting mist. A secluded retreat nestles quietly among the right-hand peaks, while the distant mountains fade softly into faint washes. Delicate brushwork and subtle colors together create an atmosphere of serene and distant stillness.
